Your tasks and responsibilities
Throughout your internship you’ll work closely with some of the industry’s best and brightest managers and scientists in one of the major businesses or service units of Covestro – Polyurethanes (PUR), Polycarbonates (PCS), Coating, Adhesive and Specialty Raw Materials (CAS), Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs (PSRA) or Regional Technical Services (RTS).
You will learn about Covestro products, which can include their chemistry, applications, end uses, customer base, and future business opportunities. You may also get a hands-on experience in research environment, as well as an up-close view of our technical and commercial operations. You will be able to apply your knowledge and education to actual R&D projects through a support of new product/technology development that helps solving real world problems. From next generation composites to materials for insulation, automotive top coats and cosmetics, opportunities abound for ground-breaking R&D that lets you be creative and imaginative yet analytical and precise.
You’ll contribute to ongoing projects that will help improve people’s quality of life, getting an intimate look at how Covestro identifies customer needs and keeps the flow of new and established products moving through the marketplace. The internship program will begin in late May/early June of 2018, and lasts approximately 12 weeks.
The following opportunities fall within our Technical Internship Program. They will be offered at our North American Headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA.

As an Application and Product Development Intern within Covestro, you will support our business unit’s new application and product development teams through formulation, processing, design and testing of Covestro materials and applications. The selected individual may have the opportunity to work with senior chemists and engineers in a fast-paced technology environment and become actively involved in the day to day operations at the site or supporting of new technology development. Additionally (for example), you may support a specific Application Development team and work on internal projects related to part design, reaction or formulation chemistry in the laboratory, molding and finished part testing.
Process Research Internship
As a Research & Development intern within Covestro’s Process Research function, the potential opportunities include: working on process improvements, manufacturing support, environmental and/or process safety projects, new product developments and plant troubleshooting activities in one of our major business units. More specifically you may also be able to work on the following: lab evaluation projects, lab analyses and trials for process optimization, raw material evaluations, new products and plant troubleshooting to develop, improve and service the company’s products, or evaluation of potential products, raw materials and equipment by conducting lab bench work.
Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs (PSRA) Internship
As a Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs (PSRA) intern, you will have the opportunity to work on various projects related to the safe use and handling of Covestro products. You will work closely with product safety specialists, toxicologists, industrial hygienists and regulatory affairs specialists within the PSRA organization. This internship provides you with an opportunity to participate in and contribute to projects that are important to the success of Covestro. The selected individual will be expected to communicate effectively, have strong computer skills, and the ability to apply their knowledge of biology, chemistry and toxicology.

Who you are
• Enrollment in a Bachelor degree program with a focus in one of the following majors: Chemistry, Polymer Science, Plastics, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or related STEM degrees.
• Completion of Freshman year.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills including an ability to interact with and establish strong working relationships with diverse individuals.
• Project coordination with the ability to be proactive and identify creative, effective technical solutions.
• Demonstrated PC skills and ability to work within Microsoft Office programs.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Willingness and ability to be placed in any of the aforementioned internship opportunities.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
